An apology from Juan Reyes

September 15, 2012

By Friends of Juan Reyes

Clearly, what our campaign intended to say in one of our final mailings was not what people heard, and for that the Reyes campaign is deeply sorry. The campaign’s only goal for that mailing to expose the hypocrisy of flip-flopping, but in the final days of the campaign we rushed a piece to press and should have given our candidate time to scrutinize it.

Juan Reyes personally apologizes for the hurt some of our friends, neighbors and fellow citizens felt — regardless of whether they are gay or straight.

As an attorney and concerned citizen, Juan believes strongly that everyone should have the opportunity to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness, and that everyone should have the opportunity to exercise their own free will in determining what that happiness is, and how they live their lives in achieving it.

Juan also believes those rights must be protected under the law, and respected as a common courtesy by friends and strangers alike. That’s good government, good citizenship, and good manners.

Whatever disagreements we may have over specific legislation, Juan believes strongly that what unites Americans as a people is our willingness and desire to live in a country where different people of many backgrounds can exist together in peace and harmony. It’s what makes us Americans.

That’s the world Juan and his wife believe in, and more importantly, it is the kind of world in which they want their three young daughters to live in when they are older.

Shame on Eric Ulrich for his rude comments about Senator Bob Dole

September 7, 2012

By Friends of Juan Reyes

It is appalling that 27-year old Eric Ulrich would mock Senator Bob Dole in such a rude and vulgar way.

Senator Dole was horribly wounded in Italy in 1945, while fighting to free Europe from Hitler and the Nazis, and permanently lost the use of his right arm. Few expected him to survive his injuries, and he spent over a year in military hospitals while doctors struggled to rebuild his damaged body.

For anyone to mock Senator Dole and make references to his anatomy in such a way is beyond contempt.

It is especially cruel coming from someone so young, and so clearly lacking in respect, as Ulrich. His lack of maturity and lack of judgment disgusts us.

His past attacks on religious Americans –  “Republicans aren’t all religious fundamentalists from Alabama; some of us are just normal” — were insulting and obnoxious.

But his comments yesterday about a great American hero like Bob Dole are a new low, even for him.

Shame on Eric Ulrich.

Bob Dole & Don Rumsfeld have endorsed Juan Reyes for State Senator

September 4, 2012

By Friends of Juan Reyes

The Reyes campaign proudly announces that Juan Reyes has been endorsed by former U.S. Senator Bob Dole (pictured above with Reyes) and former Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld.

Dole, a former five-term Senator from Kansas who served as Senate Majority Leader and former Chairman of the Republican National Committee, was the Republican Presidential nominee in 1996.

Rumsfeld, a former four-term Congressman from Illinois who served as White House Chief of Staff and U.S. Permanent Representative to NATO, was also Secretary of Defense under two U.S. Presidents.

Dole called Reyes, an attorney running in the September 13th Republican Primary for State Senate, “An outstanding leader who will fight for you and your family in Albany. He won’t tolerate the political nonsense that has done so much damage to New York’s economy.”

Rumsfeld said “Juan is smart, tough minded, decent and hardworking. He is a solid conservative who stands for lower taxes, less government spending, and a strong emphasis on economic growth in the private sector.”

Reyes, a former counsel to several city agencies in the Giuliani Administration, said he was “humbled and grateful to have the endorsement of two giants in the Republican Party.”

“My top priority is to help get New York’s economy moving and bringing new jobs and industries to our state,” said Reyes, “Republicans understand that private sector experience like mine is invaluable with New York’s current economic condition, and I urge every Republican voter to come out on Thursday, September 13th and help me win this critical election.”

Reyes Family files nominating petitions

July 13, 2012

By Friends of Juan Reyes

Republican State Senate candidate Juan Reyes and his wife Meaghan used yesterday’s nominating petition filing as a teaching experience for their three young daughters.

The Reyes girls, ages 5 and 7, personally handed their father’s nominating petitions to Board of Elections personnel at the agency’s office at 32 Broadway in Lower Manhattan.

“I want my daughters to know right from wrong,” said Reyes, “and they may not be old enough to vote for many years, but when they are, I hope they will understand the importance of being a good citizen.”

Happy Independence Day!

July 4, 2012

By Juan Reyes

236 years ago today, a group of patriots gave birth to the greatest hope of men on earth.

In the two centuries since then, many brave young men and women have sacrificed their lives so that we may remain free.

Others have returned home badly wounded, and often ignored by their countrymen.

On this July 4th, let’s stop to think about those dedicated men and women halfway around the world, who at this very moment, are putting their lives and safety on the line so that we may celebrate today.

Thank you for keeping us free.
